Art should be brought to the public in the most democratic, egalitarian way. All culture is inherently popular and political, and all creativity is referential. No one can create something that is devoid of influence (even minimalism has an intellectual history and progression). Thus, it is irresponsible for wealthy individuals and institutions to privatize cultural artifacts.
